Goa will soon make its beaches more secure. The tourism department has plans to install night vision cameras at 32 beach locations. These include 13 in North Goa, covering beaches in Pernem, Bardez and Tiswadi. In South Goa, 19 locations in Mormugao, Salcete and Canacona will be covered.
"We have plans to install CCTVs for security purposes," tourism director Swapnil Naik said. The night vision cameras will be installed on watch towers used by lifeguards states a report in Times of India.
The tourism department has already invited tenders for the supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of night vision cameras for three years. "These should have remote viewing and recording facilities at the beaches," a tourism department official said.
While the last date for submission of tenders has been extended to August 8, the technical bids will be opened on the same day. "We plan to shift the existing CCTVs (day cameras) to other areas like parking lots," Naik said.
The finalizing of agencies for the project depends, to a large extent, on the demonstration of the available technology. "The interested parties will have to hold a demonstration of the equipment, as it is important for security reasons, at a date to be fixed by us," the official said.
