Goa tourism has launched Go Goa! It has "beaches, sun and lotsa fun!" a 30-second tourism advertisement from July 11. The nine-week long media blitz on Travel Channel International has ads in eight languages including Russian, Polish, Hungarian and Bulgarian.
Indian film actress Mahima Chaudary, Miss Russia 2009 Svetlana Stepankovskaya and Miss India 2010 finalist Alisha Pekha feature in the commercials showcasing Goa's beaches, heritage sites, the night market and other popular tourist spots. In a presentation to the media, tourism director Swapnil Naik said the ads will take Goa tourism into 58.4 million homes across 104 countries in Europe and Africa. The ads will also be telecast in Asia and the Middle East. The ad campaign will cost the tourism department 2 crore from its annual budget of 13 crore, Naik said.
Even more interesting than the international ads could be the ads aimed at the domestic market. The tourism department's popular beach tourism, medical tourism, hinterland tourism is probably passé. Goa is selling 'love tourism' now.
The new series of ads for the domestic market, all focus on relationships. The enduring theme is summed up with captions that read, 'Re-ignite the fervour', or 'Rediscover your relationships'. One ad catches an elderly man and his missus snuggling in Goa. 'Let your wife be your girlfriend once again', says the caption. Another ad shows an elderly man embracing his growing son. The theme is 'Let your son be your baby once again'. The recurrent leitmotif of the ads remains 'reconstruct your relationships'.
