Tourism industry stakeholders in Goa have pinned several hopes on the forthcoming budget and feel that the state government should focus more on infrastructure development which has not caught up with the increasing number of visitors to the beach destination.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) Spokesman Ralf D'Souza said that the state government should concentrate mainly on the tourism infrastructure which has not kept pace with the number of tourists visiting Goa.
"Goa attracts 2.6 million tourists every year, most of whom throng the state beaches. The state government in its forthcoming budget should stress on River tourism. Docking facilities for the boats to be constructed along the rivers," he said.
TTAG, which is an umbrella organization of travel and tour operators, has also demanded upgradation of power and water supply in terms of quality and quantity.
"Roads in congested areas, specially in the coastal belt and intercity routes to be widened. Parking facilities in frequently visited areas should be made available. Sewage system should be introduced in the coastal areas," he said listing out various expectations from the budget.
D'Souza also stressed the need to set up garbage treatment plants in the state and also a second bridge over river Zuari which should be a "signature" bridge.
