The Goa tourism department has drawn up plans for the beautification and development of tourism infrastructure in Caranzalem and Taleigao at an estimated cost of Rs 13 crore.
As per a report in TOI, the proposal has already been sent to the union tourism ministry which is expected to bear 50% of the cost of the project. A street walk from Martin's Beach Corner to the Caranzalem garden and a 36-m high viewing tower near the garden are part of the Caranzalem plan, which alone is estimated to cost Rs 4.73 crore.
The Caranzalem plan also includes construction of a footpath, railing as a barricade preventing people from crossing the road from the foot path, illumination to mural wall display and development of seating areas with cast iron benches.
As visitors walking on the street are not able to take in the full viewing pleasure of the sea, it is proposed to construct a walkway all along the seashore. This walkway will be built of Gabion structures topped with anti-skid tiles. Pre-fabricated or bamboo structures will line the walkway every 200 m to serve as changing rooms and toilets.
In Taleigao, the highlight of the plan includes the construction of a Goan history exhibition for the benefit of tourists. Other features include an information centre, display of ancient 3-D map of Goa and the construction of a river-side settlement. Here, tourists will get to learn the history of river-side settlements.
The Taleigao project will have a number of displays of various historical empires including the Mauryan empire, Chalukyan empire, Kadamba dynasty, Hindu dynasty, Parashuram display, Muslim dynasty and Portuguese dynasty. There are also plans to construct an ancient Goan boat, an amphitheatre, have displays of the liberation of Goa, restaurant, parking, pathway, green area and a stage. The Taleigao project is estimated to cost Rs 8.04 crore.
