The tourism department will soon be in a position to collect accurate data on tourists visiting the state. Besides gathering a precise number of tourists - domestic and foreign -- it will be in a position to have a profile of tourist arrivals as well.
The department is in the process of enabling hotels, guest houses and others to electronically provide data about tourists staying in their premises. Under the Tourist Trade Act, owners of hotels, guest houses and cottages available for tourists to stay have to file form XI giving details about their guests.
Tourism department has discovered that very few hotels have been filing form XI even though it is mandatory that they furnish information about tourists.
Once submission of information electronically is activated, he said they would have more information about tourists visiting Goa such as the type of hotels they prefer to stay in, number of days stayed, their home country/state. "Nature of this information will facilitate us in better planning," a department official said.
