Goa Tourism Department may soon develop one of its hinterland tourism projects on a private island at Nagorcem in Canacona.
It has already got approval from the Goa coastal zone management authority (GCZMA), but will proceed to acquire land through the South Goa collector once it gets clearance from the town and country planning department.
Tourism director Nikhil Desai said the project will take shape only after a consultant is appointed. The project will include facilities such as water sports, a theme park, botanical garden and eco-tourism projects.
Canacona taluka is slowly coming into prominence as many tourists from Scandinavian countries frequent the serene and comparatively less crowded beaches such as Palolem, Agonda and Patnem. These beaches are also popular among many domestic tourists as per a TOI report.
"We also intend to have a project that will showcase the culture of Goa, but presently, everything is in the preliminary stage," Desai said.
Though the government has been talking about promoting hinterland and eco-tourism projects for quite some time now, it began acting on these projects only from last year.
