Organizing an event, including a wedding, on any beach in Goa, will now require the permission of only the tourism department. And fees will be charged depending on the size of the extravaganza.
Having drafted guidelines to govern permissions to all major and minor events (on beaches) in the state, the tourism department is all set to issue these permissions under the single window system of clearance introduced earlier this season.
Prior to his, permissions of departments such as excise and Goa coastal zone management authority were also mandatory.
Now, all music shows, music festivals, concerts, night bazaars, craft bazaars/exhibitions, beach weddings, tourism exhibitions, meetings and conventions organized in private and public lands outside licensed premises will require tourism department permission and will be covered under the clearance system.
Tourism director Nikhil Desai confirmed that beach weddings, whether of a Goan or a tourist, will fall under the radar of the department and the clearance system.
Any event exceeding five days, having an attendance of 750 and more people, and with an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh and more, has been classified as a major event. An event entailing an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh and less has been classified as a minor event.
