Deputy director of tourism Pamela Mascarenhas said that the tourism department is planning to rope in locals to promote hinterland tourism in Goa as beach tourism has saturated and taken a backseat.
As per a report in Time of india, Mascarenhas said that annually domestic as well as international tourists would visit Goan beaches. "of late, as beach tourism has saturated, the department plans to develop hinterland tourism," she added.
Annually, Goa receives around 2.6 million tourists, out of which half a million are international tourists. Mascarenhas also said that there is an urgent need for the tourism department to rope in locals in order to exhibit Goan art, culture, handicrafts etc with the aim of promoting hinterland tourism among the visitors. "This will help increase their revenue, which will help improve their lifestyle," she said.
