Taking a cue from Europe and South East Asia, Goa tourism has decided to introduce hop-on-hop-off buses connecting its tourism circuit. The buses will also include amphibious vehicles, which can travel through inland water, shortening the distances.

As per a PTI report, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), state-run Corporation, has decided to have private investors to launch the service. Corporation's General Manager Sanjay Chodnekar said these buses can be open air buses or even amphibious vehicles. The Corporation has done away with the initial idea of having double decker buses. "Double decker buses may not be feasible under Goan conditions but, possibility of open air buses with audio commentary facility, trained guide and others may be looked into," Chodnekar said.

GTDC's Board of Directors meeting held last week approved the scheme to have private investors to introduce such buses. "For effective development of tourism in the state, there is urgent need to introduce this service covering various tourism circuit in North and South Goa," the General Manager said.

"It is observed that in major places of tourist importance such as Europe and South East Asia, hop-on-hop-off buses have proved to be immensely popular amongst the tourists," he added. Chodnekar said considering Goa's tourist flow, the frequency of the buses can be reduced during off season. The Corporation has decided to tie up with the successful bidder for 10 years to provide the service, which will work on revenue sharing basis.
