India seems to have wiped-out the negative impression created by the global media coverage of health and safety concerns at Delhi’s Commonwealth Games in October last year, if the overwhelming response of Foreign Tour Operators (FTOs) to the Great Indian Travel Bazaar 2011 at Jaipur, is any indication.
The three-day GITB (April 17-19, 2011) was organized by FICCI in association with Rajasthan Tourism and the Union Tourism Ministry.
As many as 230 overseas travel industry professionals engaged in B2B meetings with 220 sellers of the Indian tourism product negotiating business in the Free Independent Traveler (FIT), Group and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) segments of the travel trade.
GITB 2011 witnessed foreign buyers from 55 countries doing business at 7000 plus pre-fixed meetings during the last two days. This marks a huge increase compared with 2010 event which saw the participation of FTOs from 49 countries, 176 Indian sellers and 5000 B2B meetings.
Amongst the 230 FTOs at GITB 2011, USA had the largest contingent of 20 FTOs, followed by the UK (14 FTOs), Canada and Poland (12 each) and Italy (11), France and the Netherlands (9 each), Russia and Japan (7 each), Singapore, Australia and Thailand (6 each) and Belgium, Malaysia, Mexico, Spain the Philippines and Vietnam (4 each) and Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the UAE (3 FTOs each).
