For Indians, the best value on hotel room rates can be found within India

For overseas travel, South East Asian destinations dominated the top 10 list for Indian travellers; Bangkok bagged the No.1 as per a report

According to the latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) report by Hotels.com, the global hotels expert, India beats other countries when it comes to getting the best value at hotel room rates domestically.  

Travelling at Home 

The report revealed that in terms of the average price paid on a hotel room, Indians found the best value at home at 4,715 INR, followed by the Portuguese on 4,846 INR and the Spanish on 5,009 INR. 

Swiss travellers paid the most at 10,345 INR for a night travelling domestically with the Singaporeans in second place on 9,994 INR and the Norwegians in third at 9,899 INR. The Australians were in fourth place at 9,531 INR and there was one more Asian nation in the Top 10 with South Korea at No. 6 at 8,319 INR. 

More at home or away?

Of the 29 countries analysed, 20 paid more abroad than at home with some of them having a considerable gap between the two sums. The Chinese spent 3,513 INR a night more on average when travelling abroad, followed by the Argentineans on 2,866 INR and the Indians at 2,816 INR. 

Only nine nations paid more at home than away. Travellers from Singapore had the greatest difference, spending 2,283 INR more domestically than abroad, followed by the Swiss with a 1,233 INR variation and the Norwegians with 958 INR. 

Top destinations:

When it came to overseas travel, South East Asian destinations dominated the top 10 list for Indian travellers. Bangkok bagged the No.1 spot followed by Singapore.  Pattaya and Hong Kong found themselves on the 4th and 5th positions respectively while Phuket stood 7th and Kuala Lumpur 9th.
