In order to give a boost to tourism infrastructure in the state, the renewal of licenses for tourism projects will be done once in five years instead of every year, Maharashtra government today said.
"Licenses under Shop and Establishment Act, Food and Drug Administration, Lodging and Boarding are required to be renewed every year. Extending the time limit to five years will help the tourism sector. As many as 48 licenses are required to start a restaurant," Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, at a review meeting on the 2006 Tourism Policy.
Unnecessary procedures should be done away with, Chavan said, according to a press release.
He also said that stamp duty concessions for acquisition of government land for tourism project can be given.
