Expedia and Air Asia launch joint venture

Online travel portal Expedia.com and low cost carrier Air Asia today announced the launch of a new joint venture company offering a range of hotels, flightsand holiday options for the Indian flyers.

The joint venture, headquartered in Singapore and headed by CEO Air Asia Expedia Dan Lynn, would be providing Indian business and leisure travellers an option to choose from over 1,40,000 hotels and flight connectivity not only to the main cities in South East Asia but also to the smaller cities.

The company would also be providing customised travel package to the consumer. The company is offering three nights and four day package, including return tickets, for Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Hong Kong and Phuket. Kuala Lumpur package from Delhi costs Rs 12,453, Phuket Rs 17,340, Bali Rs 17,367 and Hong Kong Rs 23,227. 

"With this joint venture, we have redefined the Indian travel landscape to deliver to travellers to South East Asia a never before experience. Expedia is focused on delivering on incredible value and travel experience to its global audience of consumers," Scott Durchslag, President Expedia Worldwide
said. 

Announcing the launch of the joint venture, Expedia India Country head, Vikram Malhi said, "24 per cent Indians now want to book their travel iternary online. India is a USD 4.5 billion market and this provides a good opportunity." He said that 75 per cent Indians want to explore South East Asia, and 65 per cent have found these destinations accessible and since Air Asia has reach to far off places, the would give the Indians an opportunity to explore those places.
