India can earn foreign exchange worth about $ 18 billion by 2020 if it eases visa rules, a top official of the Oberoi group said today.
"If you are able to solve it (visa issues), I think targets will do $ 10 billion by 2018 or $ 18 billion by 2020. You can move from 6.58 million (tourist influx) to 12 million in one year," The Oberoi Group President Kapil Chopra said here at an event organised by industry body CII.
While talking about growth of services revenue from tourism sector, Chopra said complication in visa process is detering influx of tourists. "France, Germany and Spain, if we just open visa on arrival or give them e-visa. If we can't give them visa on arrival or e-visa, can we give people visa for India in 3 days? Even if you are able to do this, we will create $ 4 billion foreign exchange revenue just from three countries," Chopra said.
He said that almost 70 million tourists go out of Germany and India gets about 0.25 million out of this.
