Jet Airways, Indigo and Air India, India's leading domestic airlines, are planning more tie-ups with hotel operators and aggregators for budget as well as two and three star hotels on their websites in order to boost their ancillary revenue.
"We have been selling holiday packages for the last few years but have concentrated on hotels in the last six months," said a top executive at Jet Airways, India's second biggest airline by market share.
Jet is the only airline which allows bookings of hotel rooms via its website - mostly luxury properties in Indian as well as international destinations.
"We are planning to significantly expand that product in the next few months. We will add more hotels to our inventory, especially two and three star as well as budget hotels," he added, not wanting to be named.
A senior executive at the national carrier Air India too said the carrier is in talks with hotel operators to allow booking of properties via its website, while an industry source said India's biggest carrier IndiGo also has plans to sell affordable hotel rooms via its site as per an ET report.
