The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) will soon launch an official mobile application for Delhi, which will mainly be targeted at tourists. There are already a few Delhi applications available for smartphones but those have been developed by private developers.
Apart from the application, Delhi Tourism is also looking at a more robust presence on the social media through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc. The app is expected to provide all relevant information- such as Delhi Metro routes and fare, bus timings, places to visit, hotels and where to eat - on a single platform. The corporation had recently hired a consultant to advice it on how to modernise its functions and make its presence felt on the social media.
“We are going for more automation and modernization and one of the steps in this direction is the development of an application based on the city,” said GG Saxena, managing director and CEO of DTTDC.
Saxena said that many private companies have shown interest and the corporation would go for bidding to select a developer of the application. “Even now people can search anything they want about Delhi through Internet but the mobile app will make the process easier with all the information available at one place. They can find out about places to visit, nearest Metro stations, prices and fares, where to eat old Delhi food or hunt out malls etc,” he said.
