After Sunday's devastating earthquake and three years of political turmoil that threatened to destabilize the region, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) party is all set to make a new beginning as per a report in TOI by Deep Gazmer. They have collaborated with the district administration to organise a winter carnival called the Tea and Tourism Festival in December. The festival will be held from December 20, 2011 to January 5, 2012.
Peace has prevailed here post the signing of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and thus the party wants to promote the Hills as a tourist hub. The winter carnival will be organized simultaneously in Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik. Tourists would witness on display the tradition and culture of the region on display. There would be food stalls serving sumptuous local delicacies.
"Tourists will be able to see tea processing in factories. We will also try to arrange for a screening of popular old Hindi and Nepali films which had Darjeeling as their themes," said a party official. The new generation adrenalin pumping, para-gliding and zorbing balls will also feature at the festival.
