Tourism in coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi is all set to receive a mega boost with Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai giving his nod for inclusion of the districts under his ministry's mega circuit.
The ministry will act on a proposal from the state government, Sahai said, adding that this would be among the many mega circuits that his ministry has planned for South India to promote tourism in the peninsula.
Sahai, taking part in a stake holders meet on holistic development of tourism in coastal region here on Saturday said the proposed mega circuits may be developed on public-private partnership mode and will be helpful in providing last mile connectivity to places of tourism importance in the districts. "The ministry will provide Rs 50 crore each for development of tourism related infrastructure in the places chosen for the mega circuits," he said.
The ministry will also meet the consultation charges for preparation of detailed project report and it is left to respective state governments to prioritise their needs as far as tapping latent tourism potential in their areas. The ministry will also extend all help that the state needs in projecting brand Karnataka on lines with similar campaigns undertaken by states such as Kerala, he said adding branding plays an important role in promotion of tourism.
