Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) last week requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to allow mixed mode use of the parallel runways 29 (new airstrip) and 27-28 combine (main and smallest ones) at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The current practice of allowing take-off and landing at these runways as noise mitigation measure is causing huge delays. Aircraft of domestic Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) operating from Terminal 1D take up to half an hour to taxi between the terminal and runway 29. Apart from the long distance to be traversed, they also have to cross the active runway (28) in the process and hence affect movement there too.
