As the tourist season is underway at Goa, three thefts, rape and an unnatural death was reported this week.
On November 12, a Ukrainian tourist (25) was alleged raped by a Kashmiri youth at Arambol beach. Accused Tenzin Dorji took the victim to a hillock near the beach on pretext of teaching her meditation and raped her. He supposedly also assaulted and threatened her against telling anyone. Pernem police arrested him after a complaint from the victim girl.
In three other incidents, a Russian and Britain tourists complained of theft from their hotel rooms at Morjim and Anjuna respectively. While Russian tourist Valeria Antonevich lost belongings amounting to Rs 1.80 lakh, Brit tourist Sara Louise Whenmon alleged theft of valuables worth Rs 86, 400. The police are yet to trace the unidentified accused as per an IBNS report.
A tourist from Tamil Nadu was also robbed at the Calangute beach on Thursday evening. Victor Debbarma of Tamil Nadu has lodged a complaint at the Calangute police station, stating that while he was enjoying an outing at the beach, his belonging were stolen.Debbarma had kept his clothes and bag containing cash of 1,000, an ATM card, a cell phone, all worth 15,000, in an open place on the beach while he went for a swim in the water. But after he came out of the water, he found his belongings missing.
