Expressions of interest invited by tourism department and opened on Tuesday had eight companies showing interest in operating helicopter services in the state. Five companies have shown interest in running amphibian craft, and one each to operate a ropeway and construct a floating hotel as per a report by Murari Shetye in TOI.
Tourism director Swapnil Naik said, "We will scrutinize the applications and these will be placed before the high powered state task force on tourism for a final decision." Naik added that once a company is selected, it will have to prepare a technical feasibility report and submit a financial offer to the department. To start with, helicopter services will ferry tourists between Ela in Old Goa and Sinquerim in Calangute. The service will later be extended to popular tourist haunts of Colva, Tiracol, Mollem and Santa Monica in Panaji.
The ropeway services will connect Reis Magos to Panaji and Reis Magos to Aguada. A tourist spot in coastal Salcete will also be identified for a ropeway service. In the case of sea plane services, tourism department will rely on the selected company to narrow down on a suitable area.
