Mr. Subodh Kant Sahai, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of India inaugurated the Conference on Rajasthan: The Heritage Corridor on April 15, 2012 at Hotel Rambagh Palace, Jaipur, organized by PHD Chamber in Jaipur on Sunday.

The Hon’ble Minister along with Ms Bina Kak, Minister of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan was warmly welcomed in traditional Rajasthani style with Tilak and a Chanderi Pagri congratulated PHD Chamber for taking the initiative.

Mr. Sahai, said even when the entire global economy was hit by recession and incurred heavy losses the tourism sector had flourished profusely and has become an important tool for earning foreign exchange. Moreover the sector has a potential of generating 2.5 million jobs in the country.

Mr. Sahai also stated that Minisitry of Tourism should aim at doubling the inbound tourist traffic and should aggregate to around an increase of 5 million by 2017. He further added the Planning Commission’s 12th Five Year Plan highlighted the tourism sector as a tool for poverty alleviation. He reiterated that Rajasthan has the benefit of having a beautiful desert, adventure tourism, heritage tourism and pilgrimage tourism and has a capacity of growing at a rate of 12 % that will boost the economy.

Ms. Bina Kak, Minister of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan said the PHD Chamber has taken the initiative of conservation & preservation of heritage sites in the state of Rajasthan. The State Government has taken measures for preservation of Heritage sites, and also informed that the Amber Development Authority, Govt of Rajasthan has initiated and taken steps to build & preserve heritage monuments in the state.
