As part of the tourism department's ambitious plans for the development of several tourist spots in Goa, the department has drawn up plans for the beautification and development of the "Colva circuit" in South Goa.
Colva beach will get a 21-metre high viewing tower and a seaside walkway of Gabion structures topped with anti-skid tiles. Viewing towers and Gabion structure walkways on the beach are also planned at Miramar, Calangute and Baga beaches. Tourism secretary D C Sahoo confirmed the plan and said that the union tourism ministry has sanctioned 7.58-crore for the beautification of the Colva circuit.
The state government will contribute 1.5 crore for the project, Sahoo added. Sources said that the viewing tower is estimated to cost 2-crore. The Colva beach walkway will enable tourists to take leisurely walks by the sea on the walkway lined with coconut and date palms. The Gabion structure walkway will start at Betalbatim, meander through Colva beach and end up at Benaulim beach. The walkway is estimated to cost around 1.63-crore.
