Cochin International Airport limited , is planning to give a boost to the domestic aviation sector in Kerala with the launch of heli taxi services from Cochin International Airport. The main objective of the initiative is to promote domestic heli travel in the state. There is immense potential for helitaxi services in the state with the increased number of domestic travellers and the still unexplored medical emergency and emergency evacuation requirements in the state.
With the inauguration of the DP world container terminal, Helicopter operation will gain more significance. Increased frequency of rigging and off shore oil exploration is also demanding more helicopter services from Cochin. CIAL is working closely with Kerala Tourism Development Corporation to widen their customer base, for tourists who wish to travel to any destination within the state of Kerala at the cost of saving time. CIAL envisages connection of all the district headquarters in Kerala through heli taxi service with Cochin as the Heli hub.
CIAL has conducted a survey on the feasibility study of Helitaxi services and Heliport operations in the state and CIAL has already taken approval of the CIAL board for the establishment of Heliport and heli network .Construction of New helipads as well as renovation of old helipads needs to be done to enable heli taxi network in the state.
CIAL is planning to conduct a one day seminar on 15th Feb 2011 at Cochin, inviting Tourism Department and Tour and resort Operators and Helicopter manufacturers and operators from India to create an awareness about the immense scope of Heli taxi operations in the state.
