China has successfully tested a new high-speed train line. Once operational it will be the longest high-speed rail-line in the world. The seven hundred kilometer line will take less than two hours to complete the journey.
The train was tested on the 2,298 km, Beijing-Guangzhou, high-speed railway line, in the presence of 100 of news reporters.
The train is designed to touch a top speed of 350 kmph and will reduce the travel time to about 8 hours from the current 20 plus hours. The route has 35 designated stops.
The train is expected to start its first run on December 26. More than 2,000 tickets have been already sold, at a staggering cost of 865 Yuan (USD 138). In comparison, the cheapest plane ticket in China costs, 25 Yuan.
