The Centre plans to develop 70 rural tourism clusters in the country’s backwaters, aiming at giving further fillip to the sector which will also generate opportunities for villagers to earn their livelihood in their respective areas.
As per plans, group of five to seven villages with unique craft, ethnic art form, or “other unique selling points” (USP) will be identified and developed as a rural tourism cluster, sources in the Tourism Ministry told Deccan Herald.
Craft bazaars and ‘haats’ for selling of local products and amphi-theatre with green rooms for showcasing local art, culture and heritage and other activities, will be created to attract visitors in each of the 70 tourism clusters proposed to be developed.
The tourism clusters will have state-of-the-art home stay and other accommodation facilities besides roads, drainage, toilet blocks, street lights and other facilities for the tourists. The basic local infrastructure and sanitation will be created through the local government.
