The Centre has approved Rs 120 crore project for conservation and development of Wullar lake in north Kashmir, an official spokesman said.
Wullar is the largest fresh water lake in Asia and the implementation of the project will start soon after the state cabinet gives its nod.
The project would be implemented by the proposed Wullar Development Authority and Rs 88 crore would be incurred on eco-restoration, water management and wildlife conservation, while as Rs 30 lakh will be used for its catchment conservation, the spokesman said.
