The Tourist Information Centre that is proposed to come up at the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh would be a concrete structure in conformation with the existing buildings. The design for the same is being prepared by the first Indian Chief Architect of the city M N Sharma.
Capitol Complex is one of the most renowned buildings designed by creator of the city Le Corbusier. It comprises of the Secretariat, Assembly and the High Court. However, for tourists the process of procuring a permit will be a tedious one. The Administration had decided to open a tourist information centre to facilitate the visitors.
A design was prepared by the architecture department of the UT Administration and was shown to Sharma who turned 90 on Saturday. Sharma said, "The design was not suitable so I made some changes it fir it to the Capitol Complex. Spread over 1,600 square feet, the building would be concrete like the existing building. The building would be replete with art work. Traces of Mohenjodaro art forms including figures of animals, birds, etc will adorn the walls."
