Caroline Beteta, President and CEO, California Travel & Tourism Commission (CTTC) has been elected as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Travel Promotion (CTP). The CTP will steer global marketing and communication programmes to promote the United States as a premier travel destination in countries around the world.

The eleven directors of the Corporation for Travel Promotion are in the process of documenting incorporation of the company in the District of Columbia and have also elected Stephen J. Cloobeck, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Diamond Resorts International, as Chairman, and George Fertitta, Chief Executive Officer, NYC & Company, as Vice Chair upon incorporation.

The goal of the Corporation for Travel Promotion is to develop a multi-channel marketing and communication programme to attract more international visitors, generate new visitor spending and create 40,000 new American jobs annually. The travel and tourism industry represents USD 1.3 trillion of the U.S. economy, supporting 8.2 million U.S. jobs and accounting for eight per cent of all U.S. exports. One out of every 16 Americans works, either directly or indirectly, in a travel and tourism related industry.

The Travel Promotion Act (TPA) of 2009 created CTP to develop and execute a plan to (a) provide useful information to those interested in travelling to the United States; (b) identify and address perceptions regarding U.S. entry policies; (c) maximise the economic and diplomatic benefits of travel to the United States through the use of various promotional tools; and (d) ensure that international travel benefits all states and the District of Columbia.

The California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC) is a non-profit organisation with a mission to develop and maintain marketing programmes – in partnership with the state’s travel industry – that keep California top-of-mind as a premier travel destination. According to CTTC, travel and tourism expenditures total USD 87.7 billion annually in California, USD 15.6 billion of which is international; support jobs for 881,000 Californians; and generate USD 5.3 billion in state and local tax revenues.
