While tourist security forces as well as Indian reserve battalion (IRB) personnel man the beaches in Goa to keep mischief makers away, the government has decided to install CCTV cameras at all major beaches and tourist destinations in the state.

The CCTV cameras will be installed through Goa Electronics Ltd (GEL). The high power monitoring committee last week, approved the proposal to install CCTV cameras for security and safety of tourists.

Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar, when contacted, said they have approved the proposal but the cost has not been finalized. Parulekar said the GEL is still working on it, and they would arrive at the figure at a later stage. The meeting on this subject will be held shortly.

In North Goa, Calangute-Candolim and Baga stretch receive maximum tourists during the season, whereas in South Goa, tourists throng beaches at Colva, Cavelossim and Palolem.
