The Central Bureau of Investigation may file an FIR against the controversial Airbus-Indian Airlines deal, sources have revealed to Zee News on Monday.
As per reports, the CBI has enough evidence to register an FIR anytime against the Rs 9000 crore aircraft deal, finalised in 2006 where Airbus was to sell 43 aircrafts to Indian Airlines.
Earlier, the deal had come under the CAG scanner because according to a clause Airbus had committed to invest USD 175 million towards opening of Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) units in India, which was later diluted in the final agreement.
Many senior Indian Airlines officials involved in the deal may face trouble if the FIR is lodged, sources said.
Reports suggest that under the perceived agreement by the EGoM, Airbus was required to invest USD 100 million in setting up of MRO centres and an additional USD 75 million for training centres.
Initial investigation had found that the clause had been cleared by the then Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) monitoring the deal which the cabinet committee on economic affairs had also given a green signal.
