Tourist bus associations across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on Sunday evening, threatened to go on strike from midnight and not enter Goa.

The strike was called by the All India Motor Transport Congress president Bal Malkit Singh, who said they were protesting the hefty entry tax of Rs 1,000 per vehicle per trip imposed by the Goa government. "Depending on the make of the vehicle, we will have to pay a huge entry tax per vehicle. We want a rollback," he demanded.

At the time of going to press, Singh said buses will be stopped at the border checkposts from Monday morning. This may hit tourists travelling to Goa and also affect supplies to that state.

Most travel agents, such as Paulo Travels, apprised passengers about the situation. "We sent text messages to passengers warning them that if there is a strike, they will have to make their own arrangements to travel further," an official from Paulo Travels told TOI.
