Bihar government is actively considering a proposal to constitute a corporation which will work as an autonomous body to promote civil aviation in the state.

As per a report in the Times of India, the body will be constituted on the lines of the existing corporations functioning in the state. Currently, the department of civil aviation is under the jurisdiction of state cabinet coordination department. The department is handled by cabinet secretary as an additional charge.

The city's Jaya Prakash Narayan International Airport (JPNI) had emerged as number one in 2009-10 among 46 airports in the country in terms of percentage growth of domestic passengers as well as domestic aircraft movement.
