The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Nashik region, the Bhandardara tourist department, the Tribal (Adivasi) Development department and the Public Works Department (PWD) are working together to make Bhandardara a major tourist hub before the commencement of the sKumbh Mela in the district.
Rupees five crore have been sanctioned by the state government for the project. The forest department and the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) will also working along with the other departments.
District guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal had recently visited the spot with the officials of all the departments as per a TOI report.
"The 6-km road from Varangushi to Shendi, which was built during the Ghatghar Dam project, is in a very bad condition. The minister has asked the concerned departments to repair the road immediately as it leads to Bhandardara," said MTDC regional manager, Nashik, Pradnya Bade-Misal.
The developmental works include improvement of the access road, setting up directional and information signage, improvement of pathways and steps, solid waste management, provision of public conveyance, upgradation of the dam wall, provision of ticket counter and information kiosk, seating and resting facilities (benches and shade), fencing and railing, street lights, entrance gate, drinking water facility, laser show and parking space for at least 30 cars, and upgradation of the existing bridge.
