According to Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New Delhi Office, Bangkok, capital city of Thailand is back to normalcy and tourism in the city is on the upswing after recent months of protest and political instability. On account of the unrest, visitor arrivals which had reduced due to the global economic slowdown dipped further, affecting the tourism industry severely. “A large number of travel agents from South Asia have restarted selling Bangkok and Thailand again aggressively to their clients,” informed Ayudhya who urged agents in India to do the same. TAT backed by the government of Thailand has been aggressively marketing the destination in various source markets and also organising events as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations this year.
In a bid to strengthen tourism, the Bangkok city administration recently completed a cleaning campaign which has re-beautified downtown shopping area. Besides this, public transportation such as Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) Skytrain and subway resumed services to all areas of the city. The Thai tourism industry is now offering special deals and discounts on rooms, food, tours and shopping etc for attracting tourists to the country. Ayudhya informed that the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale is one of the projects in which TAT and the private sector have come out in full force to provide unprecedented offers for visitors. This is over and above the numerous sales and marketing activities initiated by each member of the tourism industry.
