Much-awaited Bangalore Metro Rail is all set to be rolled out anytime now with the Railways granting the safety certification for the first phase. The Karnataka Government with the help of Central funding has been executing the project at a cost of about Rs 6,000 crore to ease traffic congestion in the fast growing city, considered the IT capital of the country.

Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety D K Singh today cleared the safety certificate, paving way for the commercial run of nine-km-long Byappanahalli-M G Road line. However, the speed of the metro rail has been curtailed to 68 km per hour from the originally granted 75 km/hour, officials said.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to inaugurate the Metro Rail and the state government is awaiting confirmation of date.
