The BEST has launched Fort Ferry service-a circular bus route which will cover the commercial hubs of south Mumbai-from Thursday. Pax can travel to any stop at a fixed fare of Rs 5. Monthly passes will cost Rs 250.
The buses were flagged off by Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray from CST at 5pm and will cover two routes-Fort Ferry 1 and Fort Ferry 2. The Fort Ferry 1 will leave CST depot and travel through GPO, Fort market, Reserve Bank, Old Customs House, Mantralaya, Vidhan Bhavan, NCPA, Churchgate station, Hutatma Chowk, Khadi Bhandar and back to CST. The Fort Ferry 2 will ply the same route in the reverse direction.
BEST public relations officer N A Walawalkar said, "The buses will operate from 8am to 9pm between Monday and Saturday."
The service will compete with the share taxis operating at CST and Churchgate station to Fort, Regal and Nariman Point.
