Chandan Brahma, Tourism, Transport etc. Minister, Assam, formally laid the foundation stone of the proposed project-‘Development of Tourism Facilities’ at Kharghuli Hill Top, Guwahati, at the campus of the Tai Samaj Complex.

The meeting held in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony was presided over by Manchow Purandar Konwar, President, Tai Samaj Guwahati. Dr. (Smt.) Hemo Prava Saikia, Chairperson, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ATDC), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest which was also attended by Debabrata Saikia, M.L.A, Nazira; Anurag Singh, Managing Director, ATDC and Baldev Malakar, Director, Tourism, Assam.

The Minister, in his speech, stressed that the proposed scheme was planned to be a star tourist attraction of the city and the state and was aimed at providing amusement to the tourists, both domestic and overseas amidst scenic splendour of the mighty Brahmaputra on the one side and the city (especially at night) on the other. The project, he stated, would also exhibit the rich Tai culture of the Tai people of the state. He also laid emphasis on the fact that tourism was essentially a dynamic concept and it could be boosted through creative ideas. The Minister also appealed to the gathering, including the local people, for their help and cooperation in order to make the proposed project a grand success.

Dr. Saikia, in her speech, applauded the efforts of the Tourism Department and the assistance extended by the Tourism Minister. She highlighted the fact that the site which was once covered by jungles, would now yield to a gem of an attraction for tourists from far and near.
