The efforts of J Kelly, an American citizen determined to clean the ancient ghats and serpentine gullies of the city, were recognised by many locals as well as her tourist friends when a special cleanliness drive started from Dasaswamedh Ghat on Sunday.

The cleanliness drive that she entitled as 'Project Surya' witnessed heavy participation from school children and locals. An admirer of the city and a third time visitor to the city who gained spiritual enlightened in yoga in the city, Kelly thinks that the city which is so rich in culture and history is badly projected due to clutter and poor sanitation at its important places.

The volunteers will move on to other ghats each day. On the inaugural day of this drive the group of students and foreigners made the ghats steps and platforms of Dasaswamedh Ghat clean.
