Vijay Mallya promoter of Kingfisher Airlines, met officials from the aviation ministry on Tuesday for the first time after his airline got grounded on October 1, and assured them of "good progress" made on the revival front of his debt-strapped carrier.

Sources in the aviation ministry said the assurances were verbal, and a concrete plan is yet to be submitted by the promoter. After meeting civil aviation secretary K N Shrivastava, Mallya, who came to the ministry with a few files, told reporters, "I have briefed him on revival and restart plan. It would be a comprehensive plan. All hurdles will be crossed."

Ministry sources said that Mallya is understood to have been quizzed by Shrivastava about the debt laden airline's plans to pay off the debts and dues to various vendors, including Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Mallya did not say how the recapitalisation of the airline was planned or when flights would be restarted.

Shrivastava declined to comment about the meeting, which lasted for about half an hour.
