Akshay Kumar of Mercury Himalayan Explorations elected as the President of ATOAI

The new office bearers and executive committee of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) were elected on 13th April 2013 during the Annual General Body meeting held at the Metropolitan Hotel, New Delhi.

The new team is led by Mr. Akshay Kumar of Mercury Himalayan Explorations who was elected unopposed as the President of ATOAI. Mr. Akshay Kumar takes over the reigns from Mr. Tejbir Singh Anand who headed the association for four years. The list of other office bearers and executive body members elected unopposed are as follows. 

  • Senior Vice President: Mr. Sanjay Basu, MD; Far Horizon Tours Pvt. Ltd.
  • Vice President: Mr. Mohan Tickoo, MD; Kash’ Venture Travels Pvt. Ltd.
  • Hony. Secretary: Mr. Vishwas Makhija, MD; India Insight Tours Pvt. Ltd.
  • Hony. Treasurer: Mr. David Singh, Director & Product Manager; Eco Adventures Pvt. Ltd
  • Executive Committee Members:
    • Mr. Vinayak Koul, Director; Snowlion Expeditions Pvt. Ltd.
    • Mr. Rajesh Ojha, Partner; Banjara Camps and Retreats
    • Mr. Supratim (Raj) Basu, Founder Director; Help Tourism Pvt. Ltd.
    • Mr. Anirudh Chaoji, Director; Pugmarks Holidays Pvt. Ltd. 

Mr. Tejbir Singh Anand, Managing Director; Holiday Moods Adventures Pvt. Ltd. becomes the Immediate Past President of the Association. Capt. Swadesh Kumar; Managing Director; Shikhar Travels (I) Pvt. Ltd, the Founder President of ATOAI, will continue as the Advisor to the Association. The new president, Mr. Akshay Kumar has also nominated Mr. Mandip Singh Soin; Founder & Managing Director; Ibex Expeditions Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Ajeet Bajaj; Managing Director; Snow Leopard Adventures Pvt. Ltd. as Executive Committee Members. 

Mr. Akshay Kumar in his inaugural address applauded the efforts by the last President and his team and expressed confidence that the new, young and dynamic team in place now would take ATOAI a new level. The new team has identified some Key Result Areas to immediately start working on. As a top priority, the team has pledged to add value for the membership and ensure powerful and resourceful networking opportunities to the membership. 

For the next two years, the focus will be on major industry issues such as

  • Promotion of Safe and Honorable Adventure Tourism
  • Synergy with various State ministries to address issues not under the scope of Ministry of Tourism but effecting the industry
