The musical fountain, swimming pool, and the children's park at the Akkulam tourist village will be renovated to woo more domestic tourists and local people. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar and attended by legislators, councillors, and tourism officials here on Tuesday as per a report in the Hindu.
Mr. Anil Kumar said more equipment would be added to the children's park and the swimming pool would be cleaned. Lights would be installed around the swimming pool, repairs would be carried out on the musical fountain, restaurant and toilets would be modernised and more equipment would be added to the health club.
The meeting was of the opinion that boating and leisure cruise on Akkulam Lake could not be resumed without the complete removal of water hyacinth. The Irrigation Department would be asked to take steps to dredge the lake, remove weeds, and construct embankments.
