Indian carriers may not be allowed to purchase aircraft unless they submit a detailed business plan, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in New Delhi today.
According to the proposal, airlines will have to provide plans three years before any purchase. The minister was speaking at the Economic Editors’ Conference.
Indian carriers have suffered losses and struggled with low load factors as increasing capacity has forced them to offer below-cost fares.
Jet Airways, SpiceJet and Kingfisher Airlines, the three listed carriers, are all running with losses.
