According to a PTI report all flights to and fro from Srinagar have been suspended from Monday, 13th September 2010 for three days in view of the ongoing unrest in Kashmir valley.
According to officials flights were suspended after fresh violence erupted in the valley, leaving 15 persons dead and scores injured. The move to suspend the flights was taken after a security review which decided that ferrying the airport staff and passengers to Awantipora airbase, 32 km from Srinagar, was a security risk.
The flights to Srinagar have been diverted to Awantipora airbase since September 3, 2010 due to resurfacing work going on at the only civilian airport in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, which is expected to be completed by September 15, 2010. Meanwhile, air force officials manning the Awantipora airbase refused permission to a SpiceJet flight to land on Monday in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the valley.
