Air fares soar by 25% for Diwali period

Fares expected to climb up by at least 50% in the next two weeks

Diwali may still be two months away, but the October travel season is already heating up. A look at major travel portals shows that air fares on popular domestic sectors have already gone up by 25%. Early birds have already reaped the benefits of low air fares. Those who are late in booking for the Diwali holiday will have to book soon to avoid clamour for seats and high fares.

Currently, destinations like Jaipur, Kolkata, and even Delhi are priced anywhere between Rs 4,500 and Rs 11,000. A one-way ticket to Jaipur on October 22 (the weekend is two days before Diwali day) ranges from Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,000. An early morning Indigo flight to the Pink City is Rs 11,000. The fares just a day before Diwali are between Rs 4,500 and Rs 9,668. Flights to Delhi are in the range of Rs 4,500 to Rs 7,000. Kolkata is the most expensive with a single one-way ticket starting at Rs 6,700. On October 22, tickets to Kolkata are priced at Rs 6,700-9,500. A day before Diwali, the fares are even higher, pitched between Rs 7,000-11,000.
