Air India will to fly daily direct services between Melbourne and Delhi from November 1 this year.
Air India will also establish its regional headquarters in Melbourne. Air India dumped services to Australia in 1997 in a cost-cutting measure.
Air India is mulling on launching daily flights to San Francisco as part of its plans to expand its global network. While flights to Melbourne is expected to commence operations from the airline’s winter schedule starting in October this year, a final decision on the San Francisco flights is yet to be taken.
ertain sources from the airline informed that Arvind Jadhav, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India discussed the modalities involved in the process with the Australian aviation authorities during his recent visit to the country. A final decision on the San Francisco flights is also expected shortly. Air India is also considering several other routes to expand its international network, these include more flights to Africa and West Asia.
