Air India will operate a third flight today to airlift Indian citizens. Earlier Air India brought back safely about 220 passengers to Mumbai who were stranded at Cairo Airport due to ongoing political turmoil in Egypt. This was their 2nd flight out of the Cairo Airport which is going through a chaotic situation with thousands of passengers becoming desperate to get back to their home countries & escape the turmoil going on in Egypt due to the massive protests against the 30-year rule of president Hosni Mubarak.

However the passengers have complained against the exorbitant fare of about Rs. 46,000 being levied for the one way journey which is almost the double of the normal one way fare between Cairo & Mumbai.

Air India said it was merely following orders from the ministry of external affairs to operate a no-profit flight. It said the tickets were priced high because the cost of operating the special flight was enormous. The passengers were also angry with the Indian Embassy which, they said, did not help in accordance with what the situation demanded.

Air India issued a clarification on Tuesday that it only recovered costs and did not make a profit.
