Global hospitality chain Accor has plans to double its presence in India by 2015, says its chairman and CEO Sebastien Bazin. Currently, the hotel chain operates 25 hotels in the country.

France-based chain Accor entered India in 2006 with the opening of Novotel in Hyderabad. Since then, it has scaled up its network in India. It is catering to both ends of the spectrum-budget and luxury segment-across six brands. Globally, Accor owns 14 brands and operates 3700 hotels in 93 countries.

"We are expanding very fast on Novotel and Ibis brands. Ibis is growing fast because the segment is responding best to the emerging middle class in India and corporate local demand within India," says Bazin.

Ibis is a budget brand and Novotel comes under mid-market segment. Both these segments have shown strong resilience in the (current) tough market conditions.

Nearly 80 per cent of Accor's demand comes from the corporate sector. The remaining 20 per cent is leisure-related. Accor's numbers are more or less aligned with industry figures. It is believed that 90 per cent of demand for hotels is generated from companies.
