Neck-deep in losses and fed up with age old customs, excise and policing norms, city's thousands of restaurant and bar owners urged Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to withdraw process of yearly renewal of 45 licenses for them.
A delegation of Ahar, an association of over 7000 restaurants and bars in city, on Friday called on Chavan to reveal to him that the process caused not only hardship but wastage of time and money.
The delegation requested him to amend the old laws and draft suitable ones to help industry survive and attract more international tourists.
Ours is the only industry which provides food clothing shelter to every common worker irrespective of caste or creed. Yet we do not get any support from the govt. We are the only industry which is controlled by so many different government departments.
The main problem is the outdated law which binds the administration. Unless the laws are changed to suit the present conditions, our industry will continue to suffer," Ahar President Sudhakar Shetty said. We have requested the Hon'ble Chief minister of Maharashtra to ease this unnecessary hassle for the benefit of the tourism industry.
The Chief Minister has agreed to study the matter in detail, and promised us some relief. Shashikant Shetty, Gangadhar Shetty, Santosh R Shetty and Chandrahas K Shetty were also present in the delegation.
