During the month of July 2011, a total of 820 Visa on Arrival (VoAs) were issued to foreign tourists . The number of VoAs issued during the month of June 2011 were 770. During the period January-July,2011, a total number of 6594 VoAs were issued. The number of VoAs issued under this scheme, during July, 2011 were Indonesia (174), Singapore (135), Philippines (131), New Zealand (158), Japan (152), Finland (42), Vietnam (15), Myanmar (7), Luxemburg (2) and Cambodia (4).The number of VoAs issued under this scheme, during January-July 2011 were New Zealand (1353), Japan (1199), Phillipines (1093), Singapore (1026), Indonesia (1052), Finland (653), Cambodia (73), Vietnam (66), Myanmar (43), Luxemburg (34 and Laos (2). During the period January-July 2011, the maximum number of VoAs were issued at Delhi airport ( 3653), followed by Mumbai (1484), Chennai (1125) and Kolkata (332).
As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists to India, The Government launched a Scheme of “Visa on Arrival” (VoA) in January,2010 for citizens of five countries, viz Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, visiting India for tourism purposes. The Government further extended this Scheme for the citizens of six more countries, namely, Combodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar in January, 2011.
